Penny Paxton
Operations Sergeant

My name is Officer Penny Paxton. I have worked for the Basalt Police Department since August 20, 2001. I moved to the area from Butte Montana. I also lived in Great Falls Montana and was a Police Officer there. I was born in Orange County California and lived in a small town in Southern California until I was eleven years old. I moved to Colorado and lived in the Castle Rock area, graduating from Douglas County High School. Later I moved to Montana and lived there until 2000.

I enjoy working for the Town of Basalt very much. I worked as a patrol officer for about three years, and then moved into the School Resource Officer position. I held that position for four years, and really enjoyed getting to know our young people. I am currently the Senior Officer, and recently went back to school. I graduated in June of 2009, Summa cum Laude, with a Bachelors of Science degree in Criminal Justice.

Phil Martin
Patrol Officer

My name is Philip Martin, I grew up in Northern Minnesota. I attended my first college at Concordia St. Paul on a football scholarship. But I moved to Crested Butte, Colorado just after my freshman year to be closer to my older brother who had lived out west for a few years. I worked as a project manager of a landscape company for four years in Crested Butte before going back to school at an online university. I then decided it was time to attend the police academy in Glenwood Springs at Colorado Mountain College. I enjoyed the valley so much I decided to stay. When not working or going to school I enjoy time with my wife and my three legged black lab. I also enjoy playing hockey as much as I can.

Jason Hegberg
Patrol Officer

My name is Jason Hegberg and I grew up in Snowmass Village. I graduated from Aspen High School class of 92. After I finished high school, I joined the Marines for four years. After I finished my commitment to the Marines I came back to the valley and worked in heavy equipment for 11 years before deciding to pursue a career in law enforcement. I can’t think of a better department to work for or a better valley to live in. I have an amazing wife Meghan and two wonderful daughters. When I am not working I enjoy building models, playing golf in the summer and most of all romping in the yard with my girls.
